Family Design Styles

My family is very eclectic, filled with individuals who know what they love and buy what they want. Luckily they all live in different houses. For instance, I have a very modern sense of style. I love odd angles and bold colors, and I have this tendency to purchase things that other people would consider wastes of money, like impressionist sculptures and round couch pillows.

My sister, however, loves decorating in French design. Almost everything she owns is European in nature and exudes the colors of France. Plus, she has a constant stream of French music softly playing in the background. Talk about ambiance! It’s like stepping into a painting when you enter her home.

Finally, my parent’s house is filled with country charm. They love the quilted, teddy bear look. In fact, I think my mother was the first person to have those little geese with the blue neck ribbons in her bathroom. They love any furniture that is comfortable and covered in blankets and doilies, and neither of them has a taste for modern furniture. Sorry, IKEA, but you will not be visited by these simple folks.

Design Firms

There are many interior design firms Scottsdale that specialize in certain design types. For instance, the best firm in the area, Est Est, specializes in southwestern designs, and they are known all over the world for their great taste and décor preferences. And, of course, each design firm is different, mostly because the designers have their own tastes and styles.

The designers that make up a firm are really the heart and soul of the place. Each designer carries with them a particular sense of style and a love of fashion, both being qualities that set them apart and make them unique. Without those qualities, every designer would be the same and interior design firms would be crippled.

Designers can learn their trade in a number of ways, from going to design school to simply being naturally expressive and possessing good taste. Some designers travel abroad to learn design styles and types, while others choose to focus on a particular design theme and make the most of it.

Out of all the firms, I have really come to appreciate those firms that try new things and keep a constant edge to their work. While it is safe to stick with what you know, it takes real guts to try something different and real talent to pull it off!

How to Design a Room

If you are having a hard time designing a theme for your home, then I have a suggestion for you. This is something I have picked up about interior design over the years, and I highly recommend it to anyone who cannot afford to hire an interior design firm.

Choose an object.

The idea is to pick one object that you really love, preferably one with colors and textures that you like and can mimic. Then, you design a room around that one object. For instance, there is a picture that I dearly love. My grandmother painted it and it captures my imagination. So, I designed a room around it. Let me explain.

The picture is an old painting of Paris, mostly black and white but some subtle coloring thrown in. So, I painted the room a cream that matched the background canvas and purchased some black vases. Then I found a candle set that had black holders, clear glass rocks, and white candle sticks.

Next, I focused on the frame. The frame was a wooden frame painted silver, with a single black line running around the center. So, I chose a black couch, a silver television, and picked out some silver picture frames for on top of the mantle. I bought a wooden coffee table that was black as well with a glass top and a silver inlay that matched everything perfectly.

And then came the accent colors. The painting had a few subtle accents, like the dark blue waters of a river flowing under a bridge and the green of tree leaves. Therefore, I purchased some blue silk flowers to place in my black vases, bought deep blue throw pillows for the couch, and painted a blue accent wall.

At the end of the week, my room looked like my picture and reflected something that I loved.

Interior Design – Whatever You Make It

Home design is really anything you want it to be. It is a conglomeration of your tastes and tendencies, a real world example of your character and personal charm. By designing the interior of your home, you are revealing to the world a part of yourself, and that is sometimes a very personal experience.

My house, for example, is a bit eclectic. But, of course, so am I. I love subtle colors and soft lines, but I also love surprises. So while my walls are beige and my couches a cream color with rounded arms, I have a red throw pillow that brings it all together. My bedroom is the same way. I love contrast, so the walls are a light creamy yellow while all of the furniture is black. Then, for fun, I threw in a purple accent with the drapes and the throw pillows, and suddenly I had the perfect room for my personality.

Of course, your rooms will be different. Not everyone appreciates my taste, and I think I would be disappointed if they did. All in all, I want my house to be unique because I’m unique. I truly believe that everyone should decorate in their own way and in their own timing. After all, as I said before, interior design is whatever you make it.

Interior Design and Architectural Design

Interior design and architectural design are different on many levels. Not only do they focus on different areas, but they usually stick to different themes and structures. Let me explain.

Interior design is the process of choosing the appearance of the inside of a structure. It is a soft science, like the cream in an Oreo. The elements of interior design are taste, style, and color. From these elements, everything inside a house or office building is chosen, from the color of the walls and the size of the light fixtures to the furniture in each room and the knick-knacks on the tables. Each piece of a room is specifically designed by an interior designer to be a small part of a whole, and that whole is planned carefully, taking the architectural design into consideration.

Architectural design is the structure of the Orea, the cookie parts that contain the cream. Architects design houses with particular themes and plans, creating unique spaces with framing tools and rebar. And each architect tends to lean toward a certain design type, just like with interior designers. Some architects love the boxy look of the 80s while others prefer Victorian themes and elements. The architecture of a home makes the interior design possible, which is why so many good interior designers focus on the home’s architecture before planning the home’s inner style.
